Chile: "Hidden Champion" of Green Hydrogen

Chilean Minister of Energy, Juan Carlos Jobet, invited over 90 participants from 30 German companies (technology suppliers, project developers and investors) and representatives from four ministries, four industry associations and five scientific institutions to an exclusive dialogue.

Minister Jobet's presentation showed that Chile is a "hidden champion" in green hydrogen. With one of the best natural conditions in the world to produce green hydrogen and its derivatives, together with good infrastructure development and an attractive investment environment, Chile is among the main countries to be a potential hydrogen supplier of the future. The transfer of technology and know-how from Germany can help Chile on this path.

According to the Chilean Ministry of Energy, the price of green hydrogen production could drop by up to two thirds by 2030 if it is produced directly from solar and/or wind energy. Chile offers excellent conditions in both areas.

Within the framework of the Energy Partnership Chile-Alemania, the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and AHK Chile are organising events and talks on relevant energy and technology issues with German and Chilean participants.
