Roundtable Energy Partnership (B2G) - Energy Group "Storage"

In cooperation with the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) the AHK Chile is implementing the Roundtable Energy Partnership. Within the framework of the German-Chilean Energy Partnership, relevant energy and technology topics are discussed here with German and Chilean participants.

The first roundtable "Business to Government" with almost 50 participants focused on energy storage. It is one of three Business to Government Roundtables that aim to facilitate an exchange between the German energy industry and the Chilean government.

Valeska Gottke, Head of Communication and Markets at the German Energy Storage Association (BVES) spoke about the current situation of storage systems in Germany and gave an outlook on the storage industry for 2020. The impact of the corona virus crisis on the industry could not yet be measured, "but the industry will be affected negatively", said Gottke. Nevertheless, climate change remains the biggest problem to be solved.

Claudio Espinoza, Vice-President of the National Electricity Coordinator (CEN) in Chile, then took over the Chilean part. Espinoza reported on the situation of the storage systems in Chile and identified the electricity grid as a focus of the development strategy.

Ignacio Jofre, Technical Advisor of the NAMA Support Project of GIZ, presented the results of a GIZ study on the applicability of storage technologies. The study analyses different storage systems and business models and develops recommendations for standards. (Link to the presentation)
Following the event, the technical dialogue between Chilean institutions and the BVES was continued through the NAMA project and a large number of regulatory issues were clarified.
